In the SLIIT’s Bachelor of Education (Hons) in English programme, the central aim is to enhance students' expertise in English Language and Literature while equipping them with essential pedagogical skills for teaching English Language and Literature effectively.
The programme consists of academic and professional components, covering key knowledge areas in English language, literature, linguistics, varieties of English, applied linguistics and education concepts. In linguistics and applied linguistics modules, students study Grammar and Syntax, Phonetics and Phonology, Writing Skills, Reading Comprehension, and Vocabulary Development. The literature modules include Genres of Literature, World Literature, Literary Analysis and Criticism, Major Authors and Movements, and Creative Writing.
The subject modules are organized under four levels, depending on the depth of the domain they cover. Under the professional components, students study instructional design for English, Assessment and Evaluation, Technology in Education, Philosophical, Psychological and Sociological foundations of education, soft skills for teachers, value education, curriculum development and research methodology.

Local A/Ls : Minimum 3 "S" passes in any stream with English as a Main Subject.
Cambridge/Edexcel A/Ls : Minimum 3 "D" passes with English/ English Literature as a Main Subject or passing A/L in English Medium.
Applicants should also pass the Aptitude Test conducted by SLIIT.

The fee is presently Rs. 215,000 per semester. Fees for any subsequent semester should be paid prior to the commencement of each semester. This all inclusive fee is charged to cover lectures, tutorials and examinations and access to computer laboratory facilities and library.
The fees should be credited to, Account No 1630552 of the Bank of Ceylon in favour of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, at the Bank of Ceylon Kollupitiya Branch located at the first floor of the BoC Merchant Tower Building or at any branch of the Bank of Ceylon; or to Account No 00 399 0000033 of the Sampath Bank at any branch of Sampath Bank. Normally, fees paid will not be refunded. However, requests for refund of fees may be considered if made before expiry of one week from the date of commencement of lectures for each semester. The date of commencement of lectures for the new applicants will be the date of commencement of lectures of the Orientation Programme. The refund, if made will be subject to a deduction of ten percent of the fee paid.
This programme aims to produce teachers who are competent to teach English Language and
Literature in secondary schools including G.C.E Advance Level classes.
