Initial Entry Visa
International students must first travel to Sri Lanka on a 30-day Entry Visa. This visa is
issued for temporary entry into the country and is a mandatory first step before
transitioning to a longer-term Residence Visa. SLIIT provides complete guidance to ensure
your initial arrival is smooth and compliant with immigration procedures.
Entry Visa Documentation
SLIIT will apply for your Entry Visa on your behalf before your arrival, once the following
documents are submitted:
- Translated Birth Certificate
- Valid Passport information page
- Police Clearance Report from your home country
- Health Assessment Report from your home country
- Timely submission of these documents is crucial to avoid delays in processing your
Entry Visa.
Visa Endorsement at the Sri Lankan Mission
Once your Entry Visa is approved, you must visit the nearest Sri Lankan Embassy or High
Commission in your home country. There, the visa will be endorsed (stamped) in your
passport. This step confirms your right to enter Sri Lanka under the approved student visa
category.
Arrival and Residence Visa Application
After arriving in Sri Lanka, SLIIT will assist you in converting your Entry Visa into a One-Year
Residence Visa. This visa must be renewed annually for the duration of your study
program. The International Office will guide you through this process to ensure all
requirements are met.
Residence Visa Requirements
To complete the Residence Visa application, you must submit:
- Defence and Security Clearance documents
- Health Assessment Report (via: ihap.health.gov.lk)
- One-Year Residence Visa Fee: USD 200 (payable at www.immigration.gov.lk)
- Foreign Exchange Receipt showing USD 1,500 converted
Visa renewals are required yearly and are fully supported by the SLIIT International Office.
