FAQs
A registered student can either walk-in, telephone or email to request/schedule for an appointment from any of the available psychologists at SLIIT Malabe from Monday to Saturday from 8.30 am – 5.00 pm. All appointments are FREE of charge.
The unit is an independent unit and is not affiliated with a faculty. The Unit has very strict operational and ethical standards to be followed when dealing with its clients.
SLIIT's Helping Hands Counselling and Well-being unit, is headed by licensed Clinical Psychologists and seeks to enhance student learning by promoting overall health and emotional well-being.

Dr. M D D Bulathwatta

CAREER SUMMARY
Dr. Dhananjaya Bulathwatta is a medical professional with extensive experience in emergency medicine and cardiac life support. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Peradeniya and a Diploma in Medical Administration from New Zealand. His career includes roles such as Consultant Medical Advisor at Falck Sri Lanka and Manager at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand. Following his service at the American Embassy in Sri Lanka, Dr. Bulathwatta now serves as the Senior Medical Officer at SLIIT Uni, where he contributes to institutional healthcare initiatives and student well-being.
In parallel with his clinical roles, he is actively engaged in medical education and community outreach. He has delivered numerous sessions on cardiac life support and participated in awareness programs through the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health in Oman, where he served as Chief Medical Officer in brigades and local hospitals.

SLMC Licensed Clinical Psychologist
CAREER SUMMARY
Harithra Chandrasehar is a Clinical Psychologist licensed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council. She completed her Bachelor's degree (Hons.) in Psychology at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (USA) and her Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the University of Colombo. Harithra has worked extensively within the Development Sector, collaborating with numerous non-governmental organizations to provide mental health and psychosocial support services to individuals and communities affected by trauma, including the civil war and other personal experiences of violence. Her professional background includes supervising counsellors delivering psychological support across Sri Lanka, designing interventions, and managing programs to address mental health needs.
In addition to her clinical work, Harithra has over seven years of experience as a lecturer in Psychology, having taught at both state and non-state universities in Sri Lanka. She is also committed to advocacy and inclusion, volunteering her services to organizations that support individuals who identify as LGBTIQ. Her diverse academic and professional experience reflects a deep commitment to mental health, education, and social justice.

Clinical Psychologist
CAREER SUMMARY
Ms. Sachini Ohara Pathiraja is a clinical psychologist with extensive experience in mental health care. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the Missouri University of Science and Technology, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology from Deakin University, Australia, equipping her with a strong foundation in psychological theories and practices. She further specialized in clinical psychology through a Master of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the University of Colombo and obtained a Master of Autism from the University of Wollongong, focusing on her expertise in autism spectrum disorders.
With over five years of clinical experience, Ms. Sachini has worked as a clinical psychologist in various settings, including hospitals and institutions both in Sri Lanka and abroad. Her evidence-based therapeutic approach and commitment to client-centered care have positively impacted the lives of many individuals. Beyond her clinical practice, she has also served as a project manager, notably contributing to the revision of Sri Lanka’s mental health policy in 2015. Her leadership in the ‘Study Australia Industry Experience Program’ further enhanced her ability to work effectively in team settings, improving employability and fostering cross-cultural understanding through practical industry experiences.
In academia, Ms. Sachini serves as a lecturer in psychology, offering students a strong academic foundation enriched by her real-world clinical experience. Her teaching bridges theory with practice, creating an engaging and applied learning environment. She adheres to the scientist-practitioner model, maintaining a continuous commitment to research and professional development, which underscores her dedication to excellence in mental health care.
