The four-year BA (Hons) in English Studies programme is designed to empower prospective students through a structured learning process. It offers interactive exposure to a wide range of social and cultural developments in the field of communication.  

The program is meant to help you cultivate all linguistic and communicative abilities required while holding responsible positions in a wide spectrum of employment sectors - educational, cultural, aesthetic, mass media, commercial, legal, administrative, diplomatic, managerial, etc.  

The knowledge and experience you achieve in this program will put you in a firm footing to take up any type of language-related academic or professional challenge in your chosen career in the future.

The BA (Hons) in English Studies curriculum covers key areas such as Language, Linguistics, Literature, Stylistics, Critical Thinking, and Soft Skills. These modules are designed to provide both theoretical and practical foundations in language and communication, essential for professionals in today's workplace, where proficiency in English is a crucial requirement. 

Throughout the programme, you will,

Course Summery

Local A/Ls : Minimum 3 "S" passes with English as a Main Subject or minimum 3 "S" passes in any stream in English Medium.

Cambridge or Edexcel A/Ls : Minimum 3 "D" passes with English/English Literature as a Main Subject or minimum 3 "D" passes in any stream.

Applicants must pass the aptitude test conducted by SLIIT

The fee is presently Rs. 235,000 per semester. Fees for any subsequent semester should be paid prior to the commencement of each semester. This all inclusive fee is charged to cover lectures, tutorials and examinations and access to computer laboratory facilities and library.

The fees should be credited to, Account No 1630552 of the Bank of Ceylon in favour of Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology, at the Bank of Ceylon Kollupitiya Branch located at the first floor of the BoC Merchant Tower Building or at any branch of the Bank of Ceylon; or to Account No 00 399 0000033 of the Sampath Bank at any branch of Sampath Bank. Normally, fees paid will not be refunded. However, requests for refund of fees may be considered if made before expiry of one week from the date of commencement of lectures for each semester. The date of commencement of lectures for the new applicants will be the date of commencement of lectures of the Orientation Programme. The refund, if made will be subject to a deduction of ten percent of the fee paid.

The curriculum of the degree programme was designed, considering the latest UGC Curriculum Guidelines for undergraduate degree programmes and the industry requirements concerned with English language proficiency. It consists mainly of four knowledge and skill areas:

1) English Language

2) English Literature

3) Communication Studies

4) Soft Skills.
