Message from the Head

The School of Nursing is a government-approved private nursing training institution offering two comprehensive programs: the Higher Diploma in Nursing and the Higher National Diploma in Nursing. Both are three-year, full-time courses designed to provide students with a strong theoretical foundation, hands-on clinical skills, and practical knowledge essential for successful careers in hospitals, clinics, and diverse healthcare environments—both locally and internationally. The school is registered with the Private Health Sector Regulatory Council and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC). Programs are delivered by a qualified panel of experienced nursing professionals and supported by a state-of-the-art skills lab for in-house practice. Students also gain real-world experience through clinical placements in both government and private hospitals across Sri Lanka. Furthermore, SLIIT’s advanced Learning Management System (LMS) offers an engaging and supportive digital learning environment.

The Higher Diploma in Nursing is accredited at NVQ Level 6 and includes a recognized pathway to Deakin University, Australia, where students may complete the final year of their BSc in Nursing and become eligible for registration as Registered Nurses with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. The success of this pathway is evident through alumni currently employed as registered nurses in Australia.

The Higher National Diploma in Nursing, also accredited at NVQ Level 6, provides students with strong job prospects, including placement opportunities at Hemas Hospitals. Additionally, students with GCE Ordinary Level qualifications are offered a valuable entry pathway, aligning with both national and global healthcare goals while ensuring enhanced employment opportunities.
