Empowering Research with Internal Support
SLIIT provides annual internal research grants to academic staff to promote high-quality research and innovation. These grants support diverse activities such as purchasing research equipment, hiring assistants, accessing literature, attending conferences, and disseminating findings.
The funding aims to cultivate original research, strengthen institutional research output, and build a strong foundation for securing further national and international funding.

The primary aim of this grant is to foster high-quality, impactful research that aligns with the institution’s strategic priorities and contributes to national and global knowledge advancement.
Specifically, the grant is designed to:
- Encourage and support innovative, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research initiatives.
- Facilitate preliminary or pilot studies that can serve as a foundation for securing larger national or international research funding in the future.
- Promote the development of new technologies, methodologies, and scholarly knowledge that address real-world challenges.
- Increase the production of high-impact publications in reputable journals and presentations at significant conferences, thereby enhancing the institution’s research profile and reputation.
Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen our position as a leader in research excellence and innovation while addressing societal, industrial, and academic needs.
The grant is open to all academic staff members holding the rank of Senior Lecturer or above, whether in permanent or contract appointments.
In addition:
- Academic staff supervising MPhil and PhD students are particularly encouraged to apply and may be eligible for enhanced funding to support postgraduate research projects.
- Priority may be given to proposals that involve early-career researchers, foster interdepartmental or interdisciplinary collaboration, or demonstrate potential for significant impact or external funding.
