Message from the Head

Hello and a warm welcome to the School of Psychology!

We are proud to be home to a vibrant and growing community of students, educators, and researchers who are passionate about understanding the human mind and making a meaningful impact in the world. Whether you are curious about how people think, feel, and behave, or dreaming of a future in counselling, education, mental healthcare, or research—you have come to the right place.

We offer two exciting undergraduate pathways for students:

The SLIIT 4-year BSc (Hons) Psychology degree

The Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) 3-year BSc (Hons) Psychology programme, delivered in Sri Lanka

Both programmes are internationally aligned and thoughtfully designed to balance theoretical knowledge with practical experience. You will engage with a wide range of topics from biological, cognitive, and social psychology to developmental, clinical, and positive psychology enhanced by hands on learning, internships, and research opportunities.

At the School of Psychology, we go beyond textbooks. Our Psychology Laboratory will facilitate student learning and experimental research. Students also benefit from counselling observation spaces, access to digital resources, small-group learning, and the guidance of a dedicated, friendly full-time team of lecturers and professionals.

We also encourage our students to grow outside the classroom. From mental health campaigns and peer mentoring to participating in national and international research forums, you will find plenty of ways to get involved. One of our biggest annual highlights is PSYCIC – the Psychology International Conference hosted by our school under the SLIIT International Conference on Advancements in Sciences and Humanities (SICASH). It is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their research alongside external scholars and engage with experts from around the world. Explore more here.

Our strong links with industry partners, NGOs, and community organizations ensure that what you learn is relevant, timely, and meaningful. Whether your path leads to postgraduate studies or directly into a career, our aim is to support you every step of the way.

We look forward to welcoming you to the School of Psychology, where learning is inspiring, supportive, and full of discovery.
