The Higher National Diploma in Nursing at SLIIT offers a well-rounded, three-year programme designed to develop the knowledge and skills needed to excel in modern healthcare. Delivered by a team of experienced nursing professionals, the programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on practice in our advanced nursing skills lab.  

Students gain real-world experience through clinical training at leading hospitals in Sri Lanka, ensuring they build strong clinical competencies. Supported by SLIIT’s interactive Learning Management System, this programme prepares you for a rewarding career in nursing, locally and globally. 

The programme covers a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge, in-house practice, and clinical experience. Students learn foundational sciences, professional nursing concepts, and clinical modules through classroom and lab sessions. Practical training includes demonstrations of key nursing procedures, guided self-practice, and return demonstrations to lecturers for feedback.  

Once proficient, students undertake clinical placements at hospitals to apply their skills in real-life scenarios. This structured approach ensures you acquire a deep understanding of nursing theory, practical techniques, and professional responsibilities needed for success in diverse healthcare settings. 

Graduates of this programme develop the ability to deliver safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care across varied healthcare environments. You will learn to integrate theory with practice, demonstrate effective communication and leadership, and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.  

The programme also enhances critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities while fostering resilience, adaptability, and ethical sensitivity.
