CAREER SUMMARY

Samurdhi holds a Bachelor of Law (Honours) Degree from the University of Colombo and a Master of Laws in International Commercial and Business law from University of West-London. After successfully completing the final examination for the admission of Attorenys-at-Law conducted by the Sri Lanka Law College, she was admited and enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. In 2020, she secured a Chinese School Scholarship and China-ASEAN Legal Research Center Scholarship to pursue her Doctorate at the South-West University of Political Science and Law where she obtained a PhD in International Law, specializing in International Investment Law.

Samurdhi has experince in the legal field in various capacities such as a practicing Attorney, legal researcher and an academic. She started her career as an apprentice to a well-known President's Counsel's Chamber in Sri Lanka and continued to be a Junior Counsel for the same Counsel for three years. Then she joined a legal firm as an Associate Attorney. Her practice was mainly on Civil matters pertaining to Family Law, Labour Law, Company Law, Money Recovery, Banking Law and Commecial Law. She also has experience in Notarial and COmpany Secretarial matters. While working as a practicing Attorney she started as a part-time lecturer in law before she became a full time acadmic in year 2020. As a faculty member in the School of Law, Faculty of Humanities and Sciences she teaches civil and commercial law subjects for undergraduate law students.

Research Clusters

Regulating Cyber Harassment and AI Liability

This cluster focuses on legal and policy responses to cyber harassment and the challenges of assigning liability for harms caused by artificial intelligence. It examines how current laws address online abuse, such as cyberstalking and image-based violence, and evaluates the effectiveness of liability frameworks for AI-related harm in sectors like healthcare, finance, and online platforms. The goal is to develop balanced, rights-based regulatory solutions that ensure accountability while supporting technological innovation.
