Hadapangodage Pevinya Peiris has been a dedicated and passionate chess player from a young age. Throughout her school career at Visakha Vidyalaya, Pevinya maintained an impressive record of achievements in both curricular and co-curricular activities, bringing immense prestige to her alma mater as a brilliant chess champion in the Asian region.
Pevinya's journey in chess is marked by numerous accolades, including the Woman Fide Master Title awarded by the World Chess Federation. She won places at the West Asian Youth Chess Championship in UAE and the Asian Youth Chess Championship and was awarded a diploma in the World Youth & Cadets Chess Championships in Greece. Her exceptional performance earned her Sri Lanka Schools Special Awards & Colours, School Colours for Chess, and Colours at the Western Province School Games.
At SLIIT, Pevinya continued to excel in chess, participating in the Commonwealth Chess Championship (Blitz) and winning the Castle Fest Inter University Chess Championship in both Blitz and Rapid categories with SLIIT Team A. She also achieved notable successes at the Colombo International Chess Festival, Kolonnawa Chess Classics 2023-24, Sri Lanka Open International Rating Chess Championship 2024, and Kaluthara Chess Festival 2024. Additionally, she was awarded the Dean's List Award for her outstanding academic performance.
