Kavya Jayasuriya, an undergraduate at SLIIT Business School, excels both academically and athletically. Growing up in a supportive family, her sports journey began at St. Bridget’s Convent in Colombo, where she developed a passion for netball. Over the years, her dedication led her to become Vice Captain in 2019, showcasing leadership and teamwork. Upon joining SLIIT, Kavya shifted her focus to shot put and quickly made her mark in competitions. She competed in the Freshers' Meet and Interfaculty Games in 2023, establishing herself in the field. In the Colombo District Meet 2023, she won gold in shot put and javelin and secured silver in discus.
She continued to shine at the Junior National Championships 2024, achieving second place in both shot put and discus. At the KDU Games 2024, she won gold in both shot put and discus, and at the 48th National Sports Games she placed third in shot put. She placed second at the 2025 National Trial with a personal best of 12.54 meters, solidifying her status as the current second-best shot putter in Sri Lanka. Beyond athletics, Kavya has made significant contributions to SLIIT’s netball team. She played a key role in helping the team achieve runner-up in the Colombo District Interclub Netball Tournament 2023 and second runner-up in both the U-Sport Inter-University Netball Championship 2023 and the Rotaract Champions League 2023. Kavya’s achievements were recognized at the 2023 Colors Awards Ceremony, where she received Colors in both Athletics and Netball and the Best Player Track & Field (Women) award. The diverse opportunities and experiences at SLIIT have helped her grow both as an athlete and as a leader, pushing her to exceed her limits while building meaningful relationships with teammates and mentors. With a promising future ahead, Kavya is excited to continue her journey and further her accomplishments.
